I too attended the show in Amarillo last October and have great news. I finally received both my autographed lithographs two weeks ago...and the signatures were real and authentic! I took my mom ( yes mom digs ZZ Top) and we had front row seats which was awesome! Just so happens that La Futura on vinyl was released on Tuesday of that exact week of the show so I bought 2 copies and brought to the show hoping for the boys to sign. Well, when I walked up for the photo op, Billy got excited and said "Oooh you got the Vinyl". Of course I got NO SIGNATURES on it. Damn! I did ask Billy what the status of his solo album was (I'd read he was working on one) and he looked surprised. Billy paused and pointed to my vinyl and said "There it is." Haha
Same treatment in Baltimore - May 19, 2013. Three hour drive each way. A fan should never be treated this way. There were a lot of extra "vips" that didn't have a badge, so I'm sure they didn't pay the extra $$ the rest of us had to pay. The question and answer session was hurried, interrupted and cut short by their handler-----he actually answered a fan's question - Can you believe that? What made it worse - the vip coordinator told us they didn't have a show the next night - so you'd think there would be a couple extra minutes for an autograph or two. Although the photo op was okay, I am very regretful I paid extra for that type of treatment.
I WILL SAY DUSTY WAS FRIENDLY AND LISTENED WHEN I WAS TELLLING HIM ABOUT HOW MANY TIMES I HAD WALKED HIM AND THE GUYS UP ON STAGE WITH A FLASHLITE BACK WHEN THE WHAREHOUSE WAS HAPPENING BUT REALLY CANT GET PAST HIM NOT WANTING TO SIGN MY BOOK BECAUSE IT WAS BILLY'S ? GREAT SHOW, BILLY SEEMS TO STILL HAVE A GOOD TIME PLAYING AND REALLY MADE THE SHOW WITH HIS COMMENTS AND CUTTING UP ON STAGE. I DID INDEED GET SHIT ON BY THAT GUY THEY PAY TO HANDLE THERE FANS, I ONLY WANTED WHAT I HAD COME OVER 400 MILES AND SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO GET. IF HE WOULD HAVE SPENT 1/100th OF THE ENERGY HE USED TO BLOW ME OFF AND MAKE EXCUSES HE COULD HAVE HAD MY BOOK SIGNED.
I WAS IN BOLOXI FOR THE SHOW. RODE 420 MILES ON MY BIKE AND PAID THE PRICE TO BE ABLE TO MEET AND GREET THE ZZ TOP BAND BUT AFTER WAITING IN LINE WHILE 18-20 OTHERS HAD THERE PICTURE TAKEN I WAS CUT OFF BY THE LONG DARK HAIRED DUDE THAT MUST HAVE BEEN THE BANDS ROAD BOSS OR WHATEVER BECAUSE THE PHOTO GUY THOUGHT HE WAS DONE AND LONG HAIR HUSTLED THE BAND THRU A DOOR A FEW FEET AWAY AND AFTER HANGING OUT AND EVEN SHAKING HANDS WITH DUSTY WHEN HE SHOWED UP OUTSIDE THE DOOR I HAD WORKED WITH BEAVER PRODUCTIONS AT THE WHAREHOUSE IN NEW ORLEANS IN THE 70'S AND WAS TELLING HIM HOW I HAD BEEN INVOLVED WITH 38 OF THERE SHOWS IN THE PAST WHEN I ASK DUSTY TO SIGN MY ROCK AND ROLL GEARHEAD BOOK HE JUST LOOKED UP AT ME A SAID " THATS BILLYS BOOK" AND WENT BACK THRU THE DOOR. I SAW BILLY INSIDE MAYBE 15 FEET AWAY AND WHEN I HELD UP MY BOOK AND PEN HE GAVE ME A WAIT ONE SECOND SIGN WITH HIS HAND AND THEN THE DOOR CLOSED. TO MAKE A LONG SAD STORY SHORT. I RODE 420 MILES AND PAID WHAT ALOT OF PEOPLE MAKE FOR A HARD WEEKS WORK TO MEET THE XX TOP BAND AND MAYBE HAVE MINUTE TO SHARE A MEMORY FROM YEARS BACK AT THE WHAREHOUSE AND GET MY BOOK SIGNED AND ONLY GOT LET DOWN AND TURNED DOWN AND BUMMED OUT BY THE BAND I HAD RESPECTED AND FOLLOWED OVER 40 YEARS. Somebody needs to do something about this meet & greet farce. I bought the VIP package for the Lynn Mass. Show and after the show there was about 30 of us total and I thought, probably like everyone else that each person would get one question for the Q&A session but they only took 3 questions out of the whole group, and they wouldnt even give an autograph. Seriously ,people pay a lot of there hard earned money to see these guys. How long would it take to answer one question from each person, and get an autograph, maybe 25 minutes. Although the show was awesome and the front row seats were great, if I had known I was going to get screwed on the meet & greet I might have thought twice on paying the price of the VIP package. I don't know if these rules are set by zztop themselves or the people running the meet & greet, but it is very misleading. I understand that they might be tired after just doing there show, but they need to understand that there loyal fans paying there hard earned money, are the reason that they are rich and famous, and giving 20 minutes of your time to make your fans happy by giving them a quick autograph isn't to much to ask. In Billy's defense though, I have to give him a thumbs up for stopping midway through the show to sighn a album that a girl had brought with her,and getting Dusty, and Frank to sighn it to,it's just to bad that the rest of us who paid for the VIP package couldn't get one after the show.
First of all ; Pablo toots his own horn about his policies and such because Billy tells him too toot it. Billy runs the show - period. While I agree their shows are very good; I do have some issue with the fact they call the photo-op a meet and greet. I can understand not spending too much time with fans asking the same lame questions over and over; but I do not think it would be too big a deal for them to sign an item as most who will pay that freight for the Diamond Package will be the type fans with something cool they want signed. I have been around them several times for over 35 years as my cousin was in Point Blank; a band managed by Bill Ham back when ZZ was with him. They are all very nice guys - even Frank - although he is moody. They have all signed several things for me as well and have been nice about it. But it all goes back to Billy; whatever his mood or whim may be - becomes policy. Trust me on that - and again; he is very nice. The real problem here is that people get an idea based on the term "Meet and Greet" that they are going to get one thing - and it is a very different interpretation than the band's interpretation of that term. There needs to be some "better 'splainin'.. on the matter". I would pay the money just for the front row seat and call everything else - gravy. ( I bought gold packages in Amarillo last October; had fifth row seats and got my autographs in the bus lot while the opening band was onstage). They all stopped and signed my picture for me and Pablo was standing right there.....) The show was great.
It was the same for me, not worth the money. This was Oct. in Amarillo and still have not recieved my litho.
Thanks for sharing... sorry to hear...
