When and how did you discover ZZ TOP ?

As far as I am concerned, I discovered ZZ TOP at the age of 14 ! A friend of mine lent me a tape (it was in 1984 !). The MTV period, you remember ! The album was "Afterburner" ! (Sleeping bags, rough boys ...). This is how all stated for me. The sound of ZZ TOP really drove me crazy ! The video clips with the car (Eliminator), the babes ! Everything was just great !

I know this period is not the best one for the real ZZ TOP fans (I mean the ones from the very beginning who prefer less "electronic fx" into the ZZ TOP music and much more "bluesy" sounds.

I grew up (LOL), and now I understand. Through the years, I bought and discovered the entire album collection. Now I do appreciate songs like "Jesus just left Chicago, Beer Drinkers..., Tube snake boogie, A fool for your stockings ...".

The last time I saw the boys in concert was 5 days ago in Paris (at the Olympia Music Hall). They were in great shape ! One of the best show I've ever seen !

What about you ????

    Hi Kitt-
I graduated from Ole Miss in 1986. I grew up an hour from Oxford. It is great to know that we have a ZZ TOP/OLE MISS connection!!! Yes, my head is still in Mississippi although I live in Alabama.

    Have a great day!

Thanks for your comment ! Nice one. I'm pretty sure your head is in Mississippi :-) Nice State by the way. I had the opportunity to attend Ole Miss in Oxford a long time ago during a summer camp. Great memories.

You are a very lucky guy ! 14 shows, 2 meet & greets and your boys on stage ! Awsesome !
As far as I am concerned : 5 shows (they do not come very often in France), and 0 meet & greets, since it's not available in France. We plan to come and visit Texas someday with my family, but before we want to be sure the Boys will perform there at the same time.

    Hell yeah !

In the summer of 1976 I was playing little league baseball in my rural hometown in Mississippi. We had practice one hot afternoon. After practice one of my teammates asked me to come over to his mom's Ford station wagon and listen to an 8 track tape he had taken from his brother's room. While his mom was playing tennis we listened to Fandango from start to finish. I was hooked at a mere 12 years of age. 36 years later, 14 shows, 2 meet & greets, and Billy bringing my twin 10 year old boys up on stage last year, I am as hooked as ever. They have really been a vital part of my life and I am forever grateful for the joy they have brought to my life.

    Rock on my brothers!
