That Little Old Kansas Tuck and Roll
I have noticed that ZZtop has not been using their whacky custom "Cream" onstage cabinets in their current tour but are using what looks to be a vintage Kustom naugahyde tuck and roll model 795 PA (made in Chanute Kansas) instead. This really brings back memories because in the late 60's I used a Kustom model 2J + 1H1 in white sparkle tuck and roll naugahyde. Those were superb amps for the time although the 2J was a bit big to lug around.
In looking through some ZZtop pictures I came across this very early picture of them:
Is that the same PA that Frank and Billy are sitting on in this picture? It just might be. I know that those guys have literally warehouses of equipment they have collected over the years and bringing a dinosaur like that with them on tour would be something that Little Old Band From Texas just might do. Even Pearly Gates makes a tour every now and again although BFG has had replicas made up that have been lightened and whatnot for his stage use.
Here's a youtube clip of them playing at the Hard Rock Hollywood on June 12th 2012, you can see the Kustom speaker columns onstage:

A coincidence? maybe, but you never really know unless those Hombres fess up!
